RAISING CURTAINS FOR MORE THAN 50 YEARS
BELLEVUE LITTLE THEATRE HISTORY
Entering our 54th Season, the Bellevue Little Theatre was founded in 1968 as a non-profit organization. It is managed by a volunteer board of directors, and is assisted by over 200 volunteers who annually contribute their production and acting talents to the theater's stage. Certain artistic staff, e.g. directors, choreographers, set and lighting designers, are paid an honorarium for their services.

The Bellevue Little Theatre, Sarpy County's only active and continuously performing arts center, entertains thousands of people annually with professionally produced performances of live theatre at reasonable prices. The theater's season consists of five productions–2 musicals and 3 plays–scheduled between September and May. The reputation for quality entertainment is evident from the numerous awards bestowed by the Theatre Arts Guild (TAG) for outstanding productions, individual performances, and creative direction and designs.

The Bellevue Little Theatre has been a labor of love and accomplishments. During its first eight years, productions were mounted in restaurants, schools and Bellevue University. Scenery, props, and costumes were stored in homes and storage units. In 1977, the Board was able to purchase and begin renovation of the 240 seat 1940's vintage Roxy Movie Theatre building in Olde Towne Bellevue. The mortgage was retired in 1981, making the BLT 'free and cleer' and eager to move forward. In 1992, the adjacent former Coast to Coast Store, was purchased and dressing rooms and other "back stage" space were added. The thrift shop/reservation center, that has been in existence for over 20 years, is operated with an all-volunteer staff, and is currently located in this building. All proceeds are used for theatre maintenance. The volunteers here aer an invaluable part of the BLT, as taking reservations could not be accomplished without their help.
Support over the last several years from the Midlands Community Foundation and Bellevue Little Theatre patrons, and the recent support of the Theaters of the Midlands, has provided upgraded lighting and sound systems, as well as interior and exterior renovations to the stage, proscenium, lobby, and marquee. The Theatre has also received annual operating support from the Nebraska Arts Council.

The Bellevue Little Theatre is an attractive and active participant in the Metro area performing arts scene, and is easily accessible from the Metro Omaha Area via the Kennedy Freeway and I-29. For further information please call 402-291-1554.
